Jamie has offered to spear head a fun run Saturday, January 22nd out of Hinton pending enough snow on the cross country. I am going to be out of town that weekend so he could use some volunteers. It takes about 5-6 people to pull off the paper-work so if any can help please let him know. As of right know pending DNR approval and enough snow he will leave out Hinton. Sign up from 11 am to 1 pm and be back by 6 pm. I will let know more as I learn more. DJ |

It was unanimously voted in, at the yearly ISSA Convention in Nov, to generously increase yearly snowmobile registration fees. This was done with the thinking/understanding that "WE"--the Snowmobilers" are more than willing to pay to play & do what we can to support our sport & help IDNR with the expense(s) incurred across Iowa by each club in relation to groomers & grooming expenses. Now--it seems we will not get back what we thought we were agreeing to. It appears that "We"- unanimously voted to give IDNR a nice little raise. PLEASE READ THE INFO BELOW: Just a quick note from a concerned ISSA 2010 convention attendee. Lengthy discussion this year over registration increases brought out a pile of concerns, hopes, plans and eventually a nearly unanimous vote to move ahead with a significant registration increase. THE one and only major concern on this issue by the voting attendees, was that we would only be voting for this increase if the DNR would agree to take less than there normal 50 percent cut. David Dowling (DNR) smiled, bit his tongue, and assured us that the DNR would not be seeking 50 percent of the newly agreed upon registration fee. Update. I attended a snowmobile clubs meeting. Guest speaker for the evening was David Carmicheal (representing ISSA as chair of some committee which he did not fully explain to us)? Open any issue of Iowa Snowmobiler magazine distributed in the last 25 years and you have about a 100% chance of seeing Dave's smiling face gracing a page or two accepting award after award, after award, after award, after award..... Get the idea? Anyway in a nutshell, Dave's opening statements were describing the new legislation pertaining to the registration increase. BOOM. Apparently the DNR is receiving 50% of the new fee??? Talk about political business as usual! I thought the liberal, give me something for nothing politicians had mostly been voted out during the last round? My wife and I were stunned. I piped up and asked Dave point blank about the vote we took part in at convention. Dave stumbled around a bit (uh, uh, uh, uh) and blamed THE SYSTEM? Trying to not so deftly side step my question Dave rambled on. Eventually my baffled wife, put in her two bits as well (good women). By the end of his speech he had totally lost the crowd. Recently I made a similar speech endorsing the rate increase in the months following convention (when Dave C. failed to show up for his scheduled presentation?). Now I am faced with eating crow on the whole distribution of funds topic. Much like the politicians who took a recent beating in the polls, I think it's time to usher in some new, honest leadership at the ISSA level. |
